She is a wise, rational, and thoughtful leader who is determined to work with the rest of the world, focusing on cultivating peaceful relations with the other nations and developing the Fire Nation's cultural identity beyond imperialism. Izumi displays a calm, patient personality and, conscious of the dark past of her nation, is opposed to aggressive and unprovoked attacks on the other nations. Sometimes, she also sends heroes with specialized experience and knowledge on behalf of the Fire Nation according to the needs of the other nations. Fire Lord Izumi also continues her father's practice of sending workers to assist in overseas construction projects and relief efforts as a natural outgrowth from their reparations work. To this end, she had the last of the Fire Nation monuments erected to honor those who perpetuated war crimes during the war removed. Izumi still sees that the Fire Nation continues to make reparations for the damage done during the Hundred Year War. She and many of her officials plan to soon invite the other nations to establish embassies within the capital of Hari Bulkan to continue fostering peaceful and cooperative relations. įire Lord Izumi currently focuses on the structure of the Fire Nation, concerned about what supports and serves their nation in the eras to come. When Raiko relented and revised his offensive plan to one of defense in which he would fortify the borders, Izumi readily offered the Fire Nation's help. As the president tried to reason with her, pointing out that Kuvira was a threat to the world and needed to be stopped, she explained that her nation had already spent too much of its history fighting meaningless wars and she refused to put her nation through another one unless there was no other choice. When Raiko suggested a preemptive strike due to the threat posed by Kuvira, Izumi firmly stated that her army would not support such an aggressive and unprovoked action. Izumi refused to support a preemptive strike against Kuvira during a meeting with the other world leaders at City Hall. Before they could continue, their meeting was interrupted by Korra and Opal and later by Bolin and Varrick, who all alerted them of Kuvira's plan to manufacture a spirit vine-powered super weapon. She was unimpressed with Wu's suggestion to attack Kuvira with an army of "highly trained badgermoles", and her glare toned down the eccentric ideas of the Earth Kingdom royal. Weeks after Korra failed to stop Kuvira from taking Zaofu, Izumi attended a meeting of the world leaders, although without the Water Tribes' representatives, at City Hall. Izumi and the other world leaders convened after the coronation and agreed to send Suyin Beifong as their representative to speak with Kuvira and convince the metalbender to step down.

There, she sat next to her father and witnessed Kuvira denounce Wu's authority and dissolve the Earth Kingdom in favor of the Earth Empire under her own rule. Three years later, Izumi traveled to Republic City in her official capacity as Fire Lord to attend Prince Wu's coronation as the 54th Earth King. 171 AG įollowing the anarchy in the Earth Kingdom in 171 AG, Izumi and the other world leaders tasked Kuvira with restoring order to the chaos-ravaged nation, granting her the position of interim president until the Earth Kingdom was stabilized enough for Prince Wu's return and restoration to the Earth Kingdom throne. Izumi's goal to stay out of military conflicts didn't always mesh well with Iroh's duties, and the two sometimes disagreed about the best course of action when the United Republic called on Fire Nation aid.

Technically, her son Iroh is in line to the throne, but his status as a general in the United Forces made that uncertain. Zuko shared her eagerness to continue to move away from the Fire Nation's brutal past. Izumi became famous for her efforts to reform the Fire Nation's government and cultivate peaceful relations with the other nations, including the United Republic of Nations. As Crown Princess of the Fire Nation, Izumi ascended to the throne as Fire Lord following her father's abdication in 167 AG. At some point during her life she had a son, whom she named Iroh after her great-uncle, and a daughter.
